How can we achieve a just transition in the palm oil industry?
Currently, Indonesia is burning. Besides the climate crisis, a major cause is the palm oil industry with its monocultures, deforestation, land grabbing and burning of peat grounds. While the 16 million workers the sector are at the frontlines, fighting the fires and inadequate working conditions, their voices have long been overlooked in Europe.
Together with a network of of unionists, workers, farmers and indigenous people based in Indonesia (TPOLS – Transnational Palm Oil Labour Solidarity) we are working on a just transition of the industry. If workers and environmentalists unite and work together transnationally along the supply chain a more just and sustainable palm oil industry is possible!
Join our strategy workshop where we bring together unionists from the German trade union in the food sector (NGG), TPOLS members, an lawyer with expertise on the supply chain law and environmentalists from Germany.

(1) … workers councils in Germany could use the supply chain law for a just transition
(2) … to build a transnational labour-climate alliance to build leverage
